We did it! Windows Live Hotmail is officially launching worldwide! This means as early as Monday morning (we’re rolling this out gradually), you can sign up for a new Windows Live Hotmail account and get instant access to our new, world-class email service built from the ground up. If you’re already an existing Hotmail user, you can upgrade your account to Windows Live Hotmail by clicking here.
New users will have the option of choosing between the full and classic experiences upon signing up. Existing Hotmail users will be defaulted onto the classic version, with the option to switch to full with just one click if they want features such as the reading pane and drag and drop. Our goal was to provide our users with the experience that best meets their daily needs. And we recognized that while some users wanted an AJAX-like experience (full), others just wanted super-fast, simple email (classic).
It’s been a long time in the making and we’re confident that you’ll love Windows Live Hotmail. Not only have we developed a service that is fast, safe and simple to use, but we’re also giving users access to their mail any way they want it. That’s right. In the coming weeks, anyone who is using Microsoft Outlook 2003 (or later) will have free access to their Windows Live Hotmail account via Outlook. This isn’t just your average POP mail… you can synchronize your mail, folders, safe/unsafe sender lists, AND contacts on your computer and on the web! Stay tuned for instructions on how to download the Outlook Connector. For consumers out there who don’t use Outlook, in the coming weeks, we’ll be providing free access to a great new consumer client mail service that will connect with any POP, IMAP and of course Windows Live Hotmail account. Click here for more details from their team blog.
Before we acknowledge the folks on the team who were involved in building Windows Live Hotmail from scratch, we must first say, “THANK YOU!” to the 20M+ beta users who have been shaping the development and features of Hotmail. We learned a ton from you over the past two years, and could not have done it without you. We’ve received over a MILLION pieces of feedback from you and made some decisions that we didn’t expect, but we’re sure glad we did.
The Hotmail team is super excited that MAIL IS HOT AGAIN! We’ve been working hard for over two years to bring Windows Live Hotmail to you, and let me just say the fun has just begun! What users see in Windows Live Hotmail is just the tip of the iceberg. We’ve done a ton of work under the hood which allows us to innovate and build richer features better than ever before!
And since I know you’re all wondering, @live.com email addresses are not available YET… but they’re coming soon. No, we can’t promise to reserve yourname@live.com for you, but in the coming months, look for ways to get a new @live.com address of your very own.
Finally, to watch the evolution of Hotmail from 1996-2007, check out this rockin’ video.
CONGRATS TO THE HOTMAIL TEAM AND BETA USERS FOR AN AWESOME LAUNCH!
– The Hotmail Bloggers: Richard Sim, Ellie Powers-Boyle, Ben Poon, Omar Shahine, Steve Kafka, Vlad Levitsky, Ashu Tewari, and the rest of the Hotmail Team
Congratulations for a job well done!
Great video. Windows Live Hotmail is #1, however I wish they would announce plans for us loyal paying customers. Where do we stand and what do we get? Congratulations on launching!
Congratulations!!!
We\’ve really enjoyed getting to know you and Windows Live (Hot)Mail over these past years. Thanks for taking the time for LiveSide, we really appreciate it.
Looking forward to what\’s up your sleeve next!
kip from LiveSide
Woohoo! Congrats! It\’s been a great beta. 🙂
P.S. Great video! Ahhh, I remember those days… makes me glad you kept the Hotmail brand around. 🙂
Many congratulations … Looking forward to what\’s coming up!
Congratulations!!!All I miss now is RTL support in the English GUI to make it perfect. Please, do add it.
Welldone! Especially well done for Outlook users. Are you going to provide imap or pop support though for other clients like Thunderbird which has Gmail as its default provider? Yahoo and Gmail provide pop and imap support and use ads for paying for it. Ads delivered in e-mils. Do the same so that you will be complete.
Congratulations…
I have been beta tester since november 2005. It was a great experience…
Congratulations!
Thanks a bunch!
C-ya!
Live team, just one question: Will i be able to see my hotmail messages on my win mobile 6 while offline?? Like pop3? Please tell me, so i can decide to buy one win mobile 6 handset or not… pleasE!
"No, we can\’t promise to reserve yourname@live.com for you, but in the coming months, look for ways to get a new @live.com address of your very own. " WHAT MEANS LOOK FOR WAYS OF YOUR VERY OWN!?!?
Congrats!!
Im very excited that we will be able to Sync our hotmail live with outlook, but will it sync our hotmail live calander with our outlook calander as well? I have MOOL and love that it syncs EVERYTHING from hotmail live. Will or can our calanders sync as well? Im keeping my fingers crossed.
Hey guys, i luv widndows live mail, but u said that we can get it on outlook?? ive tryed everything so lyk mail.live.com mail.live.co.uk mail.hotmail.com and mail.hotmail.co.uk but it doesnt work how do i do this?
Awesome i love it
Are you guy ever going to stop suspending accounts that arent accessed frequently? i was just curious cuz gmail gives you over 2 gigs of space and your account doesnt get suspended from inactivity.
This new version sucks big time.
Why can\’t I list my mail in the inbox by alphetical by sender with the oldest mail from each sender listed first?
I hate having to list a name when the only thing I want to do is to list by sender and order mail was sent by sender.
Great news, just wish you could do something about the huge amount of spam (95% of email that I get or more) and the annoying adverts and it might just be a useful service again.
my space is cool
Cool Mail !!! good job . Congratulations !!
Calendar – it sucks . when are we going to see a better AJAXified one ?
Contacts – when do we get to chat with LiveMessenger contacts , without installing.?
Feed Reader , digg it like apps from MS ?
Its good that , Microsoft is the only company in the web , that tells the world , what they are working on and also respects the users feedback. all others like google, yahoo …etc are kind of worried ,to tell the world what they are working on.
Success or failure in an openway.
Congratulations on the release. I\’ve been a beta tester since Nov. 2005 and I think this is the best e-mail service ever. Love the GUI and everything. Can\’t wait to see what other new features are coming soon.
Pity that the full version uses so much processing power. NOTsuitable for small laptops.
Congratulations. You\’ve done an amazing job. I\’ve been a beta tester and I\’m pleased with this final release. It\’s much better than the old Hotmail.
This one is: Organized, Faster and more Reliable.
Microsoft is doing a fantastic job in all its services.
Congratulations to the Windows Live Hotmail Team.
When I try to log in, I get a bunch of runtime errors, like "HTMLElement.prototype is null or not an object". I\’m on XP/IE7. Everything seems to work once the page loads, but what\’s up with the errors?
How do I compose an e-mail in plain text ?
Congratulations! I really enjoyed the beta experience and I can\’t wait to see what you have planned for it in the near future.
Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, congratulations, you\’ve really done a great work, and gave us a great mail service, and after the outlook trick, you are now the kings of mail 🙂 keep the good stuff, and stop the double-O strikes 😉
Great to see that it\’s out of beta! However… not to be a party pooper, but you still have yet to get people who have Windows Live IDs via partners (i.e.- Verizon) on Windows Live Hotmail… >.> But, great progress (I\’ve been checking every now and then on my old Hotmail account). 🙂
all i want is my own @live.com email and ill b in email bliss lol! please hurry with this addresses! tar!
Hi,
very many people are waiting for the new @live.com ID´s (mail addresses). Could you please be more precisely regarding the release date of these @live.com ID´s ?
Thank you
"…very many people are waiting for the new @live.com ID´s (mail addresses). Could you please be more precisely regarding the release date of these @live.com ID´s ?"
Please, release the @live.com addresses! And give us a release date!
-and you celebrate this by deleting all my email? Thanks a lot. F… you!
I have a question. Is it possible to subscribe to Live Hotmail to avoid advertising attached to outgoing mail?
I have Outlook 2003 and grabbed the Outlook Connector as mentioned, but all I get is "Outlook Connector is available only to subscribers." when I try to open the inbox. I\’m assuming "In the coming weeks" means it\’s not open yet; I suppose they are coordinating the Connector with the free Live Mail client that is to be released. That said, congradulations on the release, I\’m looking forward to checking my Hotmail from Outlook at work and Live Mail at home.
hola soy colombiana tengo 27 años vivo en bogotà

Hello.
I have an idea: Importing Outlook messages into Live Hotmail Account.
I have Many mail in my Outlook filder (*.MSG files) I would like to
import into my Hotmail account just like they were sent to my Hotmail
account (With their "Old" dates and "From" and "To" data).
Thanks.
It\’s pretty funny that at 1:23 in the "Watch the evolution…" video, the new UI is shown displaying a Delivery Status Failure email. So is that the typical experience one should expect from the new Hotmail? 🙂
http://www.microsoft.com/winme/0705/30005/Hotmail_Video_MBR.asx
when yuo do the contactguide (from outlook) it doesnt import the e-mailadresses and moore, how come
I don\’t know where to ask but there is no forum to help Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail Desktop. I\’ve a big problem : I cannot run Internet Explorer and each time I start Windows Live Messenger or Windows Live Mail Desktop, i\’m must to run Internet Explorer to set it online to be able to login with Windows Live Mail Desktop and Windows Live Messenger and on Windows Live Mail(hotmail) the website never remember my login and password. Please, help me.P.S : Can you answer using my e-mail please.

Sorry, but it looks like you won\’t be able to participate in Windows Live Hotmail at this time. This might be because:- Your account is with one of our partners and has additional features that Windows Live Hotmail doesn’t support yet- Windows Live Hotmail isn’t available in your area at this time- You have a parentally controlled account- Your Windows Live ID indicates you\’re under 13

In the coming weeks, anyone who is using Microsoft Outlook 2003 (or later) will have free access to their Windows Live Hotmail account via Outlook. This isn\’t just your average POP mail… you can synchronize your mail, folders, safe/unsafe sender lists, AND contacts on your computer and on the web!

It\’s really unfortunate that despite so many complaints you didn\’t change the font back to Tahoma like in M9 (for the full version). Or at least give us the option to choose our fonts. But well, what can we do more apart from accepting what you impose on us!
Well… I\’m eager to get the Outlook connector. He. =)
And yes… It\’s indeed a true shame that you imposed over us that ugly font… and not Tahoma 9… Is reaaaaaally annoying. =(
So, when we\’ll have free access to our mail account via Outlook???? I hate waiting
Когда мы уже получим возможность доступа к нашему почтовому ящику через Outlook??? Задрался ждать

Hi,
I am still waiting for some news of the Outlook Connector. Where is it? Its the end of the month now and still no news!!!
Does Microsoft and/or the "Windows Live Hotmail" team realize that they have created the Blackberry killer?!?!If I understand this correctly, the new free Outlook Connector (still to come — I want it!) will keep my MS-Outlook in sync with my Windows Live Hotmail. So … if Windows Live Hotmail would simply "push" my email to my Microsoft Smartphone instead of my Microsoft Smartphone "pulling" the email every 15 minutes (or whatever interval I set), then game, set, match … you\’ve got the Blackberry (RIM) killer! Please, please, please get Windows Live Hotmail to "push" my email to my Microsoft Smartphone instead of my Microsoft Smartphone "pulling" the email every 15 minutes.

Guys,Fantastic work. I love the new live mail. What takes me by surprise however, is how quickly the poorly chosen (and large) banner adds quickly ruin the whole feel of the look.If you absolutely MUST provide banner ads, I would love to see them tastefully integrated into the chosen color scheme.PS: 90 pixels is waaaay to big. It is for this reason why i\’ll probably stick with gmail.Again: Tasteful advertising I have no problem with. Large horrible stuff that is irritating will cause me to go else where.It\’s such a shame that such a small (and obviously last minute design) \’feature\’ can make a product go sour 😦
I want my classic msn hotmail back! For some reason I can\’t go back to it and I don\’t want to be forced into it when I don\’t like it. I don\’t give a crap about new features. I have been trying to go back for months after I saw "4 GB OF SPACE OMG!" and clicked on it and it upgraded me to Windows Live. I want plain Hotmail back please!
if somebody can tell me how to delete update failed hardware from update history? < view history >
to get your classic hot mail simplpy clik on the icon left bottom < classic back > in yellow colour.otherwise you have to delete
messenger live & reinstall ,the hotmail come\’s with that. CHRIS is the only way if i can\’t do the one i mention, butit should fix the
problem with those suggestions good luck.
Hey I want to watch the evolution of hotmail, but video is unavailable! Where I could find the link to see the video??? Or maybe you could give me the link; I am really interested in this video!!! 🙂
Really, a creation of "Sabir Bhatia" have moved to next generation. I am giving thanks to Microsoft for that.

Thanks…
I have my hotmail email account from the days when hotmail had only 12000 users. And I have found it reliable and likeable up untill this point when I upgraded to Windows Live Hotmail. I have no way of now seeing the email headers. How can you take away funtionality in a new version of a software? How????????????? Live Hotmail sure has to have some moron product managers…..
No-one asked me if I wanted this windows live mail, so many others don\’t like it either, I tried this when it was being tested & hated it then, so why can\’t those of us who prefer the old system-keep that and those that like this new awful thing-let them keep it. I for one don\’t like having things forced upon me, if it comes to it, i\’ll use my Yahoo mail as main and quit this one. What happened to freedom of choice? To the guy who can\’t watch the video- you\’re not missing anything, trust me on that. I can\’t even access my email now on this "new awful system", that\’s how bad it is. Total BS.
